Water tanker being used to fill the tanks for the ‘garden’ opposite. In later years the area was connected to main water supply although it was still fed to tanks on the roof of blocks of flats.

In Kuwait City this is an area of several shops all dripping with gold. In Britain this would be impossible as our judges in their red dressing gowns are nice to criminals but in Kuwait they wallop them, so there aren’t all that many on the streets.

The large globes are water reservoirs which need to be high to provide the necessary pressure. The uppermost globe on the right is a revolving resturant.
