The Burj Dubai fountain is still under testing, but it looks already pretty cool! Can’t wait until September for the official inauguration of the Burj Dubai!

I’ll be off flickr for about 2 weeks, I am having a personal business/short vacation in Mauritius (the island where I was born). I hope I can find some time to take photos but it’s not 100% sure.

I processed this shot a bit in a hurry (I took this shot today and I am leaving to the airport soon) so I had to cut some corners in the vertorama stitching. I am not very happy with it, may be I’ll re-process it when I come back.

This is my last night shot from Dubai. Unfortunately I did not have much time to take photos. But there will be more from that city in the near future!

The tallest building is of course the Burj Dubai, it will be inaugurated in September this year. The height to the top the spire (clearly visible now) is 818 meters (2,684 ft). The number of habitable floors is 160. At the base of the tower is a huge fountain illuminated by 6,600 lights and 50 colored projectors. It is 275 m (900 ft) long and will shoot water 150 m (490 ft) into the air. I saw that fountain already (almost completed, being tested now) and it’s truly an amazing piece of work. Shots to come soon!

The same skyline will definitely look more interesting in September as I bet the Burj Dubai will be glowing in all its splendor!

A 3×5 exposures digitally blended panorama that I did 6 weeks ago, during one evening when the haze was minimal.

Original size: 8462 x 2794 pixels, over 24 Mpix. Actually the original panorama was much wider, but I cropped it otherwise it would have looked too small…

I counted over 40 cranes in this shot. You can also have a glimpse of the giant Burj Dubai tower, which height is currently above 675.3 m (2,215 ft) with 177 completed floors. As a reference, the Taipei 101 (today’s tallest building on Earth) stands at a height of 509.2 m. The final height of the Burj Dubai still remains undisclosed. It’s due to be completed in September 2009.
